Our Cement Walkways

Whether it's a new build or we're repairing an old section of cement, our crew can help here at KMT Concrete! Besides having all the necessary equipment and experience, we've got strong backs and good ol' work ethic. We'll get your job done on time and leave you with quality results! Here's a little bit more about what we do below:

Installation

Installing a concrete walkway in Kalispell Montana can change the feel of your property, boost its value, enhance the curb appeal of your home or business, and offers visitors easy access to the surrounding entryways. Here at KMT, we take care of this process in a few simple steps.

We begin by first preparing the underlying soil, grading it and marking out where the overlying structure will lay. We then dig out six to eight inches of dirt and replace it with a compacted layer of gravel. This backfill helps protect your cement from cracking due to uneven ground, freezing temperatures, and excess moisture.

A Kalispell concrete walkway installation project begin done by our contractors.
We'll then set up forms that will act as a mold to the wet cement. These are made from wooden boards (or plastic strips if there's a curve) attached to stakes that have been periodically driven into the ground. Once these have been put into place and everything's been poured, we'll finish the surface using a couple of different tools. A "scree" is used to knock down any high spots, while a "bullrake" is employed to smooth out the surface afterwards. Finally, control joints are cut and edges rounded to prevent any unnecessary chipping or cracks. As the slabs cure, they're covered in a plastic sheet to help them retain moisture, resulting in a harder, more durable product. Any questions about the process or pricing? We then begin by working from one edge to the other, lining up the pattern as we go. Seams are touched up and finished to present a nice, clean end product and we'll then leave everything to cure. Finally, the entire surface is stained and sealed to help protect it from the elements over the years to come.

Stamped Concrete Sidewalks

A stamped cement walkway in Kalispell not only looks great, but it can add texture to your outdoor surfaces and gives off a great first impression to guests and customers alike. Here at KMT, we carefully complete these projects so that you're left with a path that accurately resembles everything from stone to wood.

We begin this process as soon as the cement is dry enough to support itself, but is still wet enough that the surface can be molded and shaped using our tools. A powder compound is first laid down to keep our equipment from sticking and add color to the final product.
How Long Does It Last?
Stamped concrete sidewalks in Kalispell MT can last for up to 30 years! This number depends on a variety of factors, but regularly resealing the surface helps protect it from sunlight and constant foot traffic, the two biggest causes of wear and tear.
Can I do It Myself?
Yes. And no. When it comes to texturing concrete, it is possible to find the right equipment and materials, however, an experienced hand and a professional are often required to finish up the process. Not only do you need to understand when the concrete is ready to be stamped, but you'll have to learn to line up the molds, put down the products, seal the surface, and get it all done within the same day. Give us a call today at 406-412-7270 and we'd be more than happy to help you get started.
